The City of Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a civilised city where not only many business entities, but also thriving residential communities are clustering around the Magnificent Edinburgh Castle. Classically beautiful is probably the best word to describe the City of Edinburgh where you can feel the distinctive cultural tradition throughout the city.
Historical attractions are stretched along the Old Town's Royal Mile, from the Castle to the Palace of Holyrood. On another site, fashionably neo-classical streets and building are clustered in New Town area. Both Old Town and New Town have remained fashionable places to live.
Edinburgh is also known as Britain's Festival City, with the International Arts, "Fringe", Film, Science, Children's, Book, Jazz and Folk Festivals, drawing millions of visitors to the city at various time and making Edinburgh the second most-visited city in the UK after London. In August each year, the main International Festival presents over 200 events along the Royal Miles for the whole month.
Being regarded as a child friendly city, many child-oriented attractions suitable for children such as sporting activities, entertainment, restaurants and shops are situated around the city. These include the Museum of Childhood and the People's Story, Edinburgh Zoo (which has a dynamic Education Centre), Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World, Gorgie City Farm and the Deep Sea World.
In term of economies, because of the city's innovative thinking, scientific advance, market performance and professional dedication, Edinburgh has gained reputation as one of the leading European financial and commercial centres. Its prosperity is sustained by the energy and diversity of its businesses. Brewing, printing and pharmaceuticals are Edinburgh's traditional hallmarks which are now developing beside a dynamic growth in the tourist and computing industry.
Edinburgh is also famous for its shopping places. Its compact city centre is house to a large choice of department stores facing the Edinburgh Castle. Students contribute to a significant number of the population. There are three universities in Edinburgh: Edinburgh University, Heriot-Watt University, Queen Margaret University and Napier University, which are all welcoming overseas students.
