*The reasons why Scotland is the place*
Scottish people are known to the world for their hospitality and friendliness, and that’s why Scotland have been welcoming international students for a long time (www.educationukscotland.org)
1. Superb Education System:
Economics, Electromagnetics, Geology,
Penicillin, Aspirin, Insulin,
Telephone, Television, Stream Engine, ATM
,HSBC, RBS, Bank of England!
Thermodynamics, Radar, Dolly the Sheep …..
It is truly amazing that a country of only five million populations introduced to the world such influential works. It is unfortunate that, however, whilst most Thai students are familiar with their innovations, very few know about Scotland and Scottish people.
The distinctive advancement of Scotland partly results from her excellent education. Scotland has long been regarded as a great place for study. Education is a fundamental part of Scottish culture for more than 500 years. It was also the first in the world to have the public education system.
Education is a fundamental to Scottish culture since 1496. It was the first to have public education system. By the time of the union with England, Scotland already had four universities, whereas England had only two – Oxford and Cambridge. Today, there have been increased to 21 universities and colleges providing degree-level education. Whilst adding up to less than 10% of British population, Scotland has much higher

Contributing to the world education system, Scottish education system was used as a model when France and the USA set up their own education systems (www.educationukscotland.org).
Coming third in overall research potential, Scotland leads the world research in biological sciences, engineering, genetics and astrophysics. Glasgow, for example, has a higher percentage of graduates than any other city in Europe and only Japan produces more engineering and IT graduates per head than Scotland.
2. Flexible education system
Rather than the one-way method of studying like that in Thailand where students attend lectures and receive information from their teachers, Scottish education environment encourages students to read, research and question what they have learnt. The proactive and independent thinking the Scottish system offers student encourages skills that are relevant, marketable and much sought-after by today's top companies (source: British Council Scotland).
Thai students can enter into Scottish university through several paths; for example:
1) You can do a 1-year university foundation course and then get into the 4-year university
programme (5 years in total). This is comparable to the English system that needs 2-year A-Level
and 3-year Bachelor’s.
2) After taking a 1-year university foundation, you can also go to college who offer practical course
(HNC/ HND). After graduating, you can choose to work or to go to the second/ third year of university.
The first year in Scottish universities offer flexible choices for students to take a wide range of courses. You can do both science and art subjects, then decide at the end of the 1st year on which field you would like to pursue. This allows you to experience different subjects in a real university environment and give you great opportunity to find out what you like and how the subjects are really like.
At postgraduate level, like other UK universities, Scottish universities offer one-year master programmes while PhD's usually take three years to complete. Scottish qualifications are highly valued internationally, especially in Europe (source: www.educationukscotland.org).
3. International & native English speaking environment
Scottish are English native speakers. You can learn English by either go to schools a take a course or live and travel around Scotland and meet local people. As a tourist destination, you can experience the international environment around the country. With a very small number of Thai students in many cities of Scotland, compared to those in Australia, London, New Zealand and USA, you can be sure that you will be exposed to a fully international environment and efficiently improve your English.

4. Very few Thai students still
Because the fact about Scotland has not been revealed for many of Thai students, there are still very few Thai students here. This gives you a chance to study and live in a fully international environment. Scotland offers a great opportunity to students to gain excellent education as well as to develop their English and experience.

Scotland has played the important part in British economy for centuries. Edinburgh is currently one of the top financial entres in Europe. The Royal Bank of Scotland (Europe’s second largest bank), HSBC (the largest financial institutes in Europe), and even the Bank of England were founded by Scotsmen. Glasgow was once the second most important city in the UK after London during the British Empire Era. Edinburgh and Glasgow are also the second most foreign visited cities after London. Aberdeen, the 3rd largest Scottish city, also plays an important role in British economy by being the oil industry capital of Europe.
