Part-time job
There are part-time job available for international students in every city, although it is easier to find in big city such as Edinburgh and Glasgow. Therefore, quite a lot of students work part-time during their study either to support their expenses (especially for travelling on their holiday) or finding more experiences working with UK companies. Students always works in the evening or weekend after their study; other than money, some of them say it is kind of relaxation after class. Most of them work in a service sector – i.e. restaurants, retail shops, banks- while some who has special skills such as IT and language can find a job in those fields.
- Restaurants and (McDonald): There are quite a number of Thai restaurant in Scotland. Thai food are considered very popular among British people. Food counters such as McDonald, Burger King, and KFC.
- Shop: Working as a sale assistant is also a good experience for students who want to find experience in shops such as NEXT, H&M,
- Cashier: Mark & Spencer, Tesco, Sainbury, etc.
- Room Maintenance or House Assistant: Some students work with the university and get discount on their rent. Various work such as bank officer, home decoration worker, cleaner, nanny are also available for those who has experience in this field.
Other than work outside university, there are also work inside university (mostly in your own field of study); for example, research assistant, teaching assistant. You have to contact your department or supervisor for available vacancies.

You can either browse on the website of or walk in to the university Career Service. They can provide you vacancies of the job within and outside the university, as well as tell you how to apply for the job. Many universities also offer CV/ Resume advice for their students. In addition, during an academic year, universities often held Career Fair/ Career Presentation in which employers from many UK and international companies are attending. The career presentation will be held either in a hotel or in university facilities.
