
University of Stirling

The University is located on a beautiful lake-side campus on a green-field site outside the city of Stirling – it is regularly described as one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe. There are currently 9000 students studying at the University with 14% of them coming from overseas. The university has grown into a major research center, with a large Innovation Park- located next to the main campus. This science center is home to over 40 companies engaging in various forms of research and development.
The campus is one of only 16 universities in the UK possessing 5-star sport facilities (Sunday Times 2003). The University of Stirling has always been highly rated for teaching excellence in arts and social sciences such as economics, business studies and psychology.
Among the sciences, Environmental Science has achieved a particularly high rating. In 2006, The Times University Ranking tables placed University of Stirling 37th of UK universities – 6th in Education; 14th in Philosophy and Communications and Media Studies; and 15th in Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation, Sport and Tourism.
Many famous alumni including Jack McConnell (previous First Minister, Scottish Parliament) and Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (Prime Minister of the UK in 1904) are graduates of the university.
