University of Strathclyde

Since its foundation in 1796 and the granting of University status in 1964, the University of Strathclyde has always placed great emphasis on practical and applied study – “A Place of Useful Learning”. Today, it is one of the largest universities in Scotland with an excellent reputation and a motivational learning environment which consistently attracts students from around the world. Strathclyde is famous not only for the quality of its teaching and research but also for its collaboration with the private sector. Strathclyde has one of the largest portfolios of postgraduate programmes in the UK. Recently, it received a 92% rating at either ‘excellent’ or ‘highly satisfactory’ – a very competitive figure in comparison with other British Universities.
With the distinction of being the first university in the UK to offer a 1-year MBA programme, Strathclyde is probably best-known for its top class Business School. Students are able to pursue an integrative studies programme which provides the opportunity to undertake their learning in a real business environment with a variety of leading companies. Strathclyde Business School is one of only 27 in the world to have the distinction of being accredited by the three international accrediting bodies – AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB – in fact, less than 1% of business schools in the world hold triple accreditation status!
Strathclyde’s science and engineering departments are just as prestigious. In the Times Good University Guide the university is ranked in the top ten for general engineering, health subjects and pharmacy. The faculty of Engineering is large and has a strong collaboration with Glasgow University, another leader in this field.
With world-class computer labs equipped with more than 1200 PCs and 140 wireless hot-spots across the University, Strathclyde is at the forefront of UK universities in term of IT provision. It also runs the largest laptop scheme in the UK offering students heavily discounted laptops. Its library facilities are superb – for example the Jordanhill library is one of the largest education libraries in the UK. Strathclyde also provides students with a large sports hall, activities room, squash courts, cardiovascular suite and a swimming pool.
